The new version of Channel 4s Countdown is rubbish. Well, not really...

I tuned in this afternoon to the new version of 'Countdown' for some background noise whilst I was working at home today. So much has changed (not) that it wasn't until I looked at the screen that I remembered all the hype around Des O'Conner and Carol Vorderman being sacked.

Well, other than those 2 overpaid and overrated presenters, nothings changed. Countdown still has the same format - someone chooses 10 random letters and 2 people compete to make the longest word possible to score points in 30 seconds. Then, they chose 6 random numbers and have 30 seconds to reach the target score (today it was 892 to be reached from 75, 3, 3, 7, 5 and 9 which obviously works at 9+3=12 x75=900-5+3=892 for anyone who cares).

All that's happened is that they have typical dumb looking woman placing the letters on the board and doing the sums and a dry, boring presenter asking the odd random question. Just the same as before and about £2million less a year to produce than last year.

The telegraph seems to feel that the new host (Rachel Riley) made a few mistakes on her first every show and that it was worthy of a whole news story, which is a bit childish in my opinion.

It's a no brainer. Having said that I bet Vorderman would look better in a tight all-in-one latex number. Mmmm.....
